What’s in the name Show Low? The legend is by all accounts, following a lengthy poker game between C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark. The two men decided there wasn’t enough space for the two of them in their settlement. They then agreed to let a game of cards decide the fate of one, loser to move out. The tale is, Clark said, “if you can show low, you win.” C.E. Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, “Show low it is.” In remembrance of this legendary card game the street that our Show Low Chamber sits on is named, the “Deuce of Clubs.”
